VOLUNTEERING
ESDS is a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. We welcome contributions from a variety of backgrounds, skills and levels of commitment!

What kind of volunteers do we need?

Door volunteers. Most volunteers and committee members will serve on the door at some point. These volunteers set up and tear down the society on Thursdays, and register our attendees.

Events volunteers. Some volunteers cannot regularly make Thursday nights, but still volunteer to help us run large events.

DJs. Most of our social dancing takes place to DJ music. We're always interested in the creativity and contributions of new DJs!

Teachers. Teachers are crucial to our society, and we invest significant time and effort into improving their skills. If you'd like to teach and you're not sure how to start, check out our route to teaching.

Musicians. If you're interested in playing for us, get in touch! We work regularly with local Jazz collective Reekie Rhythm Rendezvous to support the careers of budding Jazz musicians.

Graphic designers. We produce a lot of marketing during a year, and we can always use more creative input.

Photographers and videographers. Photographing fast-moving people in low light is difficult, but rewarding for both us and our photographers!

Benefits of Volunteering

When you volunteer to assist with running an ESDS event, you do not pay for that event. Our regular volunteers can easily save over £100 per year volunteering for us! You'll also be granted a ticket for the event before sales open to other dancers, removing the need to rush to book a ticket.

Volunteering raises your profile within our community, and gives you a chance to meet people you might not have spoken to yet. If you're a lead who only knows the names of our follows, or vice versa, volunteering can help connect you with the rest of the society.

We organise a funded thank you dinner for our volunteers near the end of the calendar year. We'll organise other volunteer-focussed events as our cadre grows.

How do I volunteer?

If you're interested in volunteering, speak to someone wearing an orange name badge at one of our events. You can also speak to anyone on the committee, or email into info@esds.org.uk.
